Stefano is a neurobiologist with strong expertise in ex vivo Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌý in vivo  electrophysiology, synaptic plasticity, circuit neuroscience, and neuromodulation. His work focuses on the mechanisms through which neuronal circuits adapt to experience and the ways in which changes in synaptic and cellular function shape motivated behaviors and learning, as well as their dysregulation in neuropsychiatric disorders. With growing evidence linking virtually all neuropsychiatric disorders to neuronal inflammation, his work in the Blakely lab aims to establish a coordinated research program to determine how defined neuronal populations and local circuits are recruited and altered during neuroinflammation. This work seeks to provide a mechanistic understanding of disease progression that can inform the development of medical treatments directed at distinct cellular targets, local circuits and stages of brain disease.
