Frequently Asked Questions

The Â鶹ŮÀÉ Police Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Some administrative requests such as fingerprinting and records request services will need to be completed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Yes. The Â鶹ŮÀÉ Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that provides 24-hour protection and services to the University and more than 30,000 students, faculty, and staff. In addition to the Boca Raton Campus, we also provide services to the University's partner campuses including MacArthur, Harbor Branch, Davie, and SeaTech. Our police officers are certified through the State of Florida and have met the mandatory training and education requirements required by Florida State Statutes. All officers receive advanced, ongoing training in excess of the mandatory minimum requirements. Officers are responsible for enforcing Florida criminal and traffic statutes, as well as the rules and regulations set forth by the University.

If you filed a police report directly with our agency, you will need to complete a Public Records Request Form. Public Records Requests should be submitted in person at the University Police Department during normal business hours, emailed to faupdrecords@fau.edu, or faxed to (561) 297-4888. Once a request is submitted, please allow sufficient time for the processing which can take several business days. Once approved, it can be sent via mail, fax, or picked up at the University Police Department. Fax copies will be limited to 3 pages. Copies will only be held for thirty (30) days from the date of the request.

Property Registration is highly encouraged by the University Police Department to identify an item as your property. In the event your property is lost or stolen and later turned over to us, we can cross-reference the information you provided to assist us in returning it back to you. It is also an additional layer of security for you because the unique "Â鶹ŮÀÉ Owl Tag" number can be traced back to you. Please keep in mind that there is no guarantee that lost or stolen items can be recovered. Property registration simply aids in recovery efforts. If you have a specific question or concern regarding property, please feel free to contact Lost & Found at (561) 297-2174 during normal business hours. Lost & Found has been relocated to the Breezeway substation, next to the bookstore.

Yes. We work closely with our partners at Parking and Transportation Services to facilitate requests for these services. Simply contact us on our non-emergency line at (561) 297-3500 with a brief explanation of your problem as well as your location (specific lot numbers help!), your vehicle description (make, model, color), and your personal information (name and contact number). We will then send a unit to your location to assist you. For battery boosts and vehicle lock-out services, you will need to provide identification as well as proof of vehicle ownership. Unfortunately, the University Police Department does not provide services for low gas or low air in tires. Instead, we encourage you to contact non-University service providers such as AAA or local towing companies for other vehicle-related issues.

At the Â鶹ŮÀÉ Police Department, we understand that students, faculty, and staff sometimes attend our campus after normal business hours. The Night Owls Program is a student-run evening safe ride service on the Boca Raton Campus for students (staff and faculty too!) who would like a safe ride across the campus. The Night Owls operate Monday through Thursday from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am and Fridays from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm and can be reached at (561) 297-6695. For instance after hours of operation or if you would feel more comfortable reaching out to the University Police Department, you can also contact us on our non-emergency line at (561) 297-3500 for a courtesy transport from one of our officers.

All parking-related questions and concerns should be referred to Â鶹ŮÀÉ Parking Transportation Services, which can be reached on their mainline at (561) 297-2771. The hours of operation for Parking and Transportation Services are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm. They are conveniently located on the first floor of the Student Support Services Building (SU-80). All visitors to the campus are required to park at one of the several visitor designated parking areas located throughout the Boca Raton campus. These parking areas will be clearly designated and will require electronic payment through the use of parking meters. If you plan on visiting for an extended period of time, you will need to make arrangements with your specific Department or contact Parking and Transportation Services to make other arrangements.

In the event you are involved in a traffic crash on our campus, you should immediately dial 911 to receive police and medical assistance, if necessary. Our main priority is the safety of all parties involved. Upon calling us, it is important to remain calm and composed as we gather the necessary information from you, which includes your location, vehicle descriptions, number of parties involved, and possible injuries. Upon receiving your location, we will immediately dispatch a law enforcement officer as well as the appropriate medical personnel, if required. To better assist our investigation of the traffic crash, please have your driver's license, insurance, and vehicle registration information readily available. If the other party leaves the scene before law enforcement arrives, attempt to obtain their tag number and vehicle description, if possible. *If your vehicle was hit while it was parked and the other party is not at the scene, it is important that you immediately notify us. Delayed notification can hinder our investigation efforts.

The Â鶹ŮÀÉ Police Department provides a means of communication for members of the University community to anonymously provide us with information on unsolved crimes, crimes in progress, or any possible threat to the safety of our University community. We understand the apprehension some feel about reporting crimes involving face-to-face contact. That is why we instituted the Silent Witness Program.
