Our Studies

Our lab is currently hosting multiple studies, both in-person and online! We are currently running studies online through Zoom, a video conferencing platform, for infants between 6 months and 24 months old. Our in-person studies are held on the Boca Raton campus of Â鶹ŮÀÉ. Participation is fun, easy, and informative! You can learn more about child development as well as contribute to science in a meaningful way, helping us to understand how babies understand their worlds. What is a visit to the lab like? 

Engage with your baby

Engage with your baby in our interactive neuroimaging studies! We're interested in the ways that both parent and baby's brains process information during social interactions. We record responses from both the infant and parent brain simultaneously while they interact together during structured cooperative tasks and unstructured play sessions.

Our eye-tracking system

We record infant attentional behavior using our eye-tracking system! We use a specialized camera that allows us to record where infants are looking on a video screen. Infants are seated on their parent's lap in a dimly lit room and spend about 5 minutes watching different videos or looking at pictures of social and nonsocial objects.

Parent FAQ

Infants sit in their parent’s lap or in an infant seat and watch an event in a video or on a puppet stage. We measure infant’s attention to the events. The outcome of our studies help us better understand the way that infants perceive their world, and how this changes over the first two years. For example, we are investigating how infants tracking of objects changes between 4 and 12 months. We are also investigating whether infants 6 to 12 months learn from robots as well as they learn from humans. More detailed information about the particular study in which your infant would participate will be given during your appointment.

We are currently accepting infants between 6 months and 24 months old to participate in multiple studies in our lab.

No, you do not have to pay for parking. Our lab has two reserved parking spaces. You will be provided a parking permit if your infant participates in a study with us. A lab staff member will meet you in the parking lot prior to your appointment and walk you to our lab.

Of course! We have a playroom onsite for siblings that attend the appointment. Our friendly lab staff is happy to spend time with your other child(ren) while your infant participates in the study.

Currently, our lab offers a choice between a $10 Amazon.com gift-card or a small toy for participants as compensation.

Any information obtained during your visit that can be identified with you and your child will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission or as required by law.

Yes. You will be with your baby the whole time. Depending on the study, they will either sit in your lap in front of a video or play with you!

No, we do not provide reports. The data we gather is anonymously aggregated into a grouped data set, so we don’t compare results of one particular infant to another. Findings from our data are shared at conferences and published in professional journals.
