Biography
Dr. Mureen Thorne-Shaw is an Associate Professor and Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Originally from Ontario, Canada, she has extensive clinical experience in acute care settings, primary care, and community health settings throughout South Florida's tri-county region. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and has participated in numerous local and international medical mission trips with nonprofit organizations, providing care to underserved populations.
Dr. Thorne-Shaw is passionate about advancing community health and improving access to care for vulnerable and underserved populations worldwide. She has led undergraduate and graduate nursing study abroad programs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), providing students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences that cultivate cultural competence, a commitment to humanitarian service, and a strong sense of global civic responsibility.
Before joining Â鶹ŮÀÉ, Dr. Thorne-Shaw served for over 16 years at Barry University in a variety of academic and leadership roles, including undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty member, Interim Director, and Director of the Master's and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. Throughout her tenure, she championed several student-centered initiatives and served on numerous university committees. In recognition of her commitment to academic integrity and student advocacy, she was appointed the inaugural Chair of the College of Nursing's internal Student Grade Appeal Committee in 2019, a position she held through 2024.
In addition, Dr. Thorne-Shaw co-chaired the University's Grants, Leaves, and Sabbatical Committee, collaborating closely with the Provost to secure a record level of mini-grant funding in support of faculty scholarship and research initiatives across the university.
