Updated Single-Source Faculty & Staff Directory Strategy

To eliminate outdated information, conflicting details, and redundant content across Â鶹ŮÀÉ's digital ecosystem, the site enforces a strict Single-Source Bio Model. Every employee—faculty, staff, researcher, and administrator—maintains exactly one canonical profile page on the university platform, with zero exceptions.

1. Strategic Directory Architecture & URL Naming Rules

Instead of allowing individual departments, centers, or clubs to build custom bio pages, all staff and faculty profiles are loaded individually into the root /about/directory/ folder of their respective home college or division.

  • Directory Path Structure:

    • College Personnel: fau.edu/[college-slug]/about/directory/[lastname]

    • Research Division Personnel: fau.edu/research/about/directory/[lastname]

    • Central Administration: fau.edu/about/directory/[lastname]

  • URL Disambiguation Naming Rule: To prevent duplicate bio creation and URL collisions, bio URLs strictly use /lastname. If a last name is already in use, append the first initial(s):

    • Primary: /directory/smith

    • Disambiguated: /directory/smithj (for John Smith) or /directory/smithja (for Jane Smith)

2. Component Usage & Dynamic Taxonomy Tagging

  • Staff Bio Component Mandate: Any content tagged as Faculty & Staff must explicitly use the standardized Staff Bio Component to render their profile page.

  • Metadata Tagging: Once created, tag the person’s canonical profile with all applicable affiliations, including:

    • Academic Departments & Divisions
    • Research Labs, Centers, & Institutes
    • Student Clubs & Organizations
    • Advisory Boards & Committees
  • Listing Component Rendering: Departmental landing pages, lab sites, and club pages embed the Listing Component. By filtering this component by specific tags (e.g., tag: english, comparative-studies), the component automatically pulls and displays the official bio card for each tagged individual without duplicating any content.
